Read/Watch/Listen To This: Chihuahua Police Chase Edition

Hello, lovelies, and welcome to another week of Read/Watch/Listen To This!

The premise is pretty simple: We each give you one thing to watch, one thing to listen to, and one thing to read over the weekend.

This week includes mostly chihuahuas. You're welcome.

Read

Jody:
THIS CHIHUAHUA OH MY GOD. A chihuahua lead a motorcycle cop on the most gleeful police chase I have ever seen across the Bay Bridge on Sunday. Read the account of how he was pursued, "distracted with a jacket," then apprehended.

Jenni:
I fell down a rabbit hole about rabbit holes this week. For those of you who are not familiar (sorry about your life, by the way), an Internet rabbit hole is essentially what happens when you look something up online and then hop from link to link until you've been reading about foie gras for two hours (happened to a friend of mine).

Watch

Jody:

Watch this chihuahua happily gallop into San Francisco.

High speed pursuit on the Bay Bridge this morning! One in custody. All are safe!

Jenni:

I rediscovered this Art21 profile of Louise Despont this week, and it is still just as great as I remembered it. Louise's art and methodology is so similar to how I go about writing and living in general. I love how she describes collecting images and the joy there is in archiving for archiving's own sake. As someone who also gravitates toward "full" and "packed" spaces and images, this video is all kinds of satisfying. I think I'm one of the few people I know who just doesn't jive with minimalism, and this articulates my sensibilities so much better than I ever could.

Listen

Jody: Listen to the sounds of a chihuahua running across the Bay Bridge.

No but seriously, I am very into these new sounds from the vocal feminists of Slotface (formerly Slutface), all the way from Norway (I get so many press releases from Scandinavia and I don't know why). This song reminds me so much of my youth spent attending all-ages punk shows and also fills me with hope for the future. Keep fighting the good fight, Slotface.

Jenni:

OK, so my listen is also sort of a watch? Andrew Bird and Fiona Apple recently collaborated to make this gorgeous music video for their song, "Left Handed Kisses." I grew up listening to these two, and seeing them together was really special.

Fiona and Andrew are one of those pairings you didn't know you were always thinking of — does anyone else ever get that? Like, when music has this "rightness" to it that feels almost ancient? I might just be a weirdo with a lot of feelings, but know that this song is pretty much a masterpiece imo. And the last few seconds in the music video, where the recorded music cuts and Fiona and Andrew sing the ending live... chills.
